Background and Aims
Founded in Greenwich, London in 1987, Groupwork Consultation and Training Ltd (GCT Ltd)
has developed a respected, proven, track record. We are the only organisation in the UK specialising
exclusively in Social Groupwork training. We hold our own courses in Greenwich, London, but also
run in-service courses all over the British Isles.
Over the last twenty years we have built up considerable expertise. Our commitment is to the Public
Sector : Probation Areas, Social Services, NHS, Education Authorities, Drug Projects,Voluntary
Organisations and Charities. Our course participants are mainly staff on the ‘front line’ who run
groups.
With funding for training today being scarce, it is difficult to find resources that are cost effective, and
which offer a consistently high standard of training. It has been our experience that for various
reasons,sometimes unavoidably, staff can be “dropped-in at the deep end' to facilitate groups.
GCT fills the gap that exists in social groupwork training and development, with a focus on group
process awareness which is fundamental for group workers who may be practicing at different levels.
Our aim is to offer a supportive enjoyable experience, which will build confidence, and heighten
awareness of social group work. We wish to promote a greater awareness and understanding of
social group work theory, and the ways in which this links to practice.
