'An essential resource for anyone needing social groupwork training courses'

Running an Anger Management Group:

The course objective is to enable participants to set up and run their own anger management groups through a combination of theory and practice. The course includes theoretical information but the main emphasis is an inter-active approach with participants practising material from an eight session group work manual which is given to every course member.

The course offers a structured programme with a comprehensive resource pack which will enable participants to run anger management groups. Work with the pack is systematically explained, and demonstrated experientially.

No previous groupwork experience is assumed. The approach is based on an established cognitive behavioural approach which has been used successfully with offenders, but it is not exclusive to this client group.

Participants need to be aware that there is a high level of participation, including role plays and discussion, and although experiential it should be stressed that this is not a therapeutic group.

Session Content
• Session 1 - What is Anger?
• Session 2 - Techniques for controlling Anger
• Session 3 - Breaking Angry Incident into stages
• Session 4 - Physical Arousal and Relaxation

• Session 6 - Learning to express anger assertively (Part 1)
• Session 7 - Learning to express anger assertively (Part 2)
• Session 8 - Bringing it all together
• Session 9 - Final Follow up Session

Participants receive feedback from the facilitator, and by the end of the course they will be familiar with the material and be able to run anger management groups with their clients.
