Certificate Course participants/ facilitators.

Greenwich School of Management 2006.

The Certificate in Groupwork

The Certificate in Groupwork is awarded by the Greenwich School of Management, Greenwich, London, who are accredited by British Accreditation Council **. This five day workshop is the last part of our twelve day social group work training course combining personal and peer learning.

Entry requirements:

Entrants must have completed both GCT’s Foundation and Intermediate Courses or equivalent

to apply. (Please contact the Director of Training if you need clarification on this)

Applicants must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of social groupwork theory

and process.

Course content comprises:

Seminars:

Various group work topics will be selected and agreed by participants and course facilitators, incorporating different aspects of social group work theory and practice.

These are then presented as seminars over the life of the course by both participants and facilitators.

Experiential (Group Process) Training:

A Group Process Training Model (PTM) has been developed over the last twenty years by

Groupwork Consultationand Training Ltd. This model provides a unique way of understanding

group process in an effective manner which focuses on experiential learning within the life of this

group. This is followed by an hour’s analytic session which enables participants to dismantle and

examine closely the hidden, emotional and verbal interactions which have occurred, thus enabling

integration of both aspects of the processes operating in groups.

Written Work/Project:

Participants will be asked write a essay of approx. 3,000 words about a current or retrospective

piece of group work practice, and relate this to theory. It is crucial that this work demonstrates the

ability of participants to analyse their work, including the impact of the groupworker’s style on interaction within a group. Support is given from individual and peer sharing, as well as consultancy from the facilitators. The essays are externally assessed and a date for submission will be communicated during the five days.

Assessment & External Assessors.

Participants are continually assessed by facilitators. Self and peer assessment is also encouraged. The external assessor gives a written feedback on project work.

Award of Certificate:

The Certificate in Groupwork will only be awarded if the assessment panel is satisfied that all criteria clearly defined on the course have been fully met.
