THE CERTIFICATE IN GROUPWORK
Five Day Workshop (90 units) Is awarded by the Greenwich School of Management, Greenwich, London, who are accredited by the British Accreditation Council.
Entry Requirements:
Entrants to this final part of the Twelve-Day Social Groupwork Training Course must have completed both GCT’s Foundation and Intermediate Courses, and have gained a good understanding of social groupwork theory and process.
Certificate Course comprises:
1. Seminars:
• Groupwork topics selected and agreed by participants and facilitator/s will be prepared and presented, or co-presented,
by participants over the life of the course.
• The facilitator/s will also present one or two seminars – depending on the participant numbers.
2. Experiential (Group Process) Training:
• Another opportunity, on each of the five days of the Course, to focus on the experiential learning process of this particular group and it’s emotional life.
• This is followed by an hour’s analytic session which enables participants to dismantle and analyse the hidden, emotional, and verbal interactions which have occurred and may also be expressed in body language. In this manner, group members can learn to integrate both the emotional and intellectual aspects of the processes and dynamics operating within groups. (It should be noted that this is a LEARNING TOOL for participants, and is NOT TO BE UTILISED WITH CLIENT GROUPS).
3. Essay:
• Now comes the really hard work! Each participant is expected to write an essay of approximate 3,000 words
about a current or retrospective piece of groupwork practice, and relate this to theory. IT IS CRUCIAL THAT THIS ESSAY DEMONSTRATES THE ABILITY OF EACH PERSON TO ANALYSE THEIR WORK. THIS INCLUDES THE IMPACT OF HIS/HER STYLE ON INTERACTION WITHIN THEIR GROUP.
Support is given from individual and peer sharing, as well as consultancy from the facilitator/s. This work is assessed by an External Assessor, and a date for submission will be given during the Course.
Assessment and External Assessors.
Participants are continually assessed during the life of the Course by the facilitator/s. Self and peer assessment is also encouraged. The External Assessor gives written feedback on the Essays. If participants wish, draft essays can be assessed internally, so they have a chance to make any changes required, prior to submission to the External Assessor. However, if individuals chose to utilise this facility, it is important that their work is given to GCT in sufficient time to allow for reading, and comments to be in corporated into the work, if they wish to do so, in good time to meet the deadline.
Award of Certificate:
The Certificate in Groupwork will only be awarded if the Assessment Panel is satisfied that all the criteria clearly stated for the Course have been fully met.
Assessment Panel:
Mr David Warren-Holland - Founder and Director GCT Ltd.
Dr William Hunt - Principal, Greenwich School of Management External Assessor (for Essays):
Dr Tom Douglas - Principal Lecturer, formerly at Keele University.
(Groupwork Consultant to GCT Ltd.)
