Four Day Workshop [72 units]
Designed to continue examination of group processes through a unique method of experiential learning and analysis developed
by GCT over 20 years, which with further theoretical input, enables and develops greater awareness of group dynamics.
Applicants should have completed GCT’s Foundation Skills Course or it’s equivalent (subject to discussion and agreement
with the Director of Training).
Here, one is offered the chance to improve upon and learn skills in a variety of techniques including an introduction to GCT’s
Process Training Model (PTM):
• delving deeper into co-worker relationships, leadership styles and roles
• working more creatively in groups
• taking care of self whilst developing practice
• groupwork consultancy and supervision.
The facilitator is responsible for providing boundaries, safety, structure and theoretical input, whilst participants are
encouraged to bring their own past or current material for exploration and help. Peer learning is emphasised.
Participation is required in: Consideration of a wide range of groupwork issues to decide some of the course content, and honing co-working skills by facilitating aspects of the course. Much emphasis is placed on the growth of the process operating within the group, and its regular review and analysis – the Process Training Model. Learning to prise open one’s senses to the group process, teaches a higher awareness to the dynamics which fuel all group interactions. This use of self is a vital tool for all groupworkers. Don’t fret, this is not as scary as it sounds!
Participants who take the opportunity to become engaged with this workshop for the full four days are given a Certificate of
Achievement, becoming eligible for a place on the GROUPWORK CERTIFICATE COURSE.
Venue : Greenwich London

Standard Guide
NVQ’s - National Vocational Qualifications are a very significant part of the UK training and development. They were first introduced in 1986 by the specially formed National Council for Vocational Qualifications. NVQ awards are often at a high level of competence. Course could add further knowledge towards gaining a NVQ level 3. For example within the Health & Social Care NVQ3 awards, there are two optional group work units for Children & Young People HSC 322 and HSC 393. Course could also provide significant learning for NVQ level 4.
DANOS, the Drug & Alcohol National Occupational Standards specify the standards of performance that staff in the drug and alcohol field should be working towards. Course could be linked to DANOS standards:-AD.2.1; AD3.1; AD2.2; AD3.2; A13.1; A13,2; A13.3.
The four days are part of a twelve day group work course and count as 72 units of 216 units towards the Certificate of Groupwork
