This course is for those who have not practiced groupwork before, or who wish to build and develop existing knowledge. It explores key theories, dynamics and processes in working with or leading groups.
Topics covered include:
Aspects of social groupwork theory.
Group Processes/dynamics.
Planning.
Positive and negative roles within groups.
Strategies for dealing with difficult members/situations.
Co-working and leading groups.
Leadership styles.
Participants receive a pack relating the theory practiced on this task-oriented workshop, which teaches groupwork through participation in small and larger groups.
By the end of the course participants should be able to identify and understand the following:
Models of groups and group processes.
Begin to channel positive group roles and deal with negative behaviour.
Recognise their own and others leadership styles.
Understand the impact of these styles on co-working relationships and group dynamics.
Participants who attend all three days will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement. They are then eligible for a place on the Intermediate Course.
This training is the first part of a twelve day course, which includes the Foundation and Intermediate courses. It is worth 54 units towards GCT’s Certificate of Groupwork for which 216 units are needed. The Certificate of Groupwork is awarded by Greenwich School of Management, who are recognised as efficient by the British Accreditation Council. (BAC). This was established in 1984. Its sponsors include the chief bodies responsible for the maintainance of academic standards in the UK. Universities, Polytechnics,Colleges, and National Validation Bodies, such as the British Council.)
Standard Guide
NVQ's National Vocational Qualifications are a very significant part of the UK training and development. Introduced first in 1986 by the specially formed National Council for Vocational Qualifications. NVQ awards are often at a high level of competence. Course could add further knowledge towards gaining a NVQ level 3 and provide significant learning for an NVQ level 4.
DANOS The Drug & Alcohol National Occupational Standards specify the standards of performance that staff in the drug and alcohol field should be working towards. Course could be linked to DANOS standards:-AD.2.1; AD3.1; AD2.2; AD3.2; A13.1; A13,2; A13.3.
